Barbara ThomasI met Barbara Thomas 39 years ago when she came to work in the same unit I worked in. From then until now, we have been very close friends. Bobbett, as her friends and colleagues know her, has been a survivor of breast cancer on three different occasions. The first incident was in 1993 in which she was one week shy of being cancer-free for five years. The second incident was in May of 2000 in which she was a seven-year survivor. The third incident, just this past November, 2007, she was diagnosed with liver & pancreatic cancer, making her total number of years of survival 12. Even though her treatments were all chemotherapy with no radiation, she is the most courageous lady I have ever met. This lady is one of the dearest friends I have ever had. She is always there when you need her, regardless of how she is feeling that day. She is also raising two beautiful granddaughters, ages 5 and 8 with the help of her husband, Larry. Her spirit is always uplifting and charming and she has never met a stranger. Even though this past year has been very difficult for her, she has never complained about any discomforts and has always been extremely cheerful during the good & bad times. Like I said, she is "one tough cookie." |
