STERNES

Sharon Sternes

Nominated by: Cynthia Banks

I would like to nominate my sister, Sharon Watson-Sternes, because she is an extraordinary woman. We lost our Mom to uterine cancer a couple of years ago and my Dad's sisters both had breast cancer. Sharon was the caretaker for our Mom. Also, she had been going back and forth to West Texas to take care of our Aunt whose breast cancer recurred. In fact, our Aunt died a month after Sharon was diagnosed.

Sharon has been such an inspiration to all of us, because she did not let the death of our Aunt and Mother get her down. In fact, they were very inspirational and strong, Christian ladies. Sharon kept stating that we will fight this thing called cancer. Many people wondered if Sharon was sick, because she was so upbeat and always smiling. However, Sharon wasn't ashamed to share with people that she had cancer and how the Lord has blessed her. She even made jokes about losing her hair.

Sharon is an elected official on the DeSoto School Board and she hardly ever missed any meetings or school functions. She went through surgery, chemotherapy and radiation, and it never stopped her.

Sharon truly is a fighter and she encourages me and other women to make sure to get mammograms. Sharon really believes by getting mammograms and well-woman checks each year helped save her life, and she states that God has it all under control.

Sharon is a 2-year Inspirational Survivor and loved by so many.
